There’s not enough hours in the day. If I only had more time, then I could really grow my business. I hear these things everyday and they are often false beliefs that hold us back.
Let’s tackle the first statement… There’s not enough hours in the day. Everybody has the same amount of hours in a day and has to choose how to use them. When you are growing a business you have to choose what is the most important use of your time. You also have to be able to find good help with tasks you do not have time for. This could mean contracting out some work or hiring employees. Nobody does it all alone and the more income you produce, likely the more help it will take to support your customers.
Then there’s…. If I only had more time, then I could really grow my business. This is also usually a false trap. Most businesses will not grow proportional to the effort you put into them. It has a lot more to do with your strategy and your products/services than how many hours you work. In fact, many times the less hours I work, the more money I take home.
The bottom line is that my business can’t exist without the support of the staff and vendors we have. Over the years staff is an area that I struggled with. I have studied it in-depth and have a ton of good experience now with recruiting, interviewing, and on-boarding new staff. I am considering doing a training on these very topics as I know it is an area other’s struggle with (especially with that first hire). If you would like more info on this training, please email me and let me know.
